Motor Vehicle Compensation

New South Wales law requires that an accident be reported to police within 28 days of its occurrence and that the claim for damages be brought within 6 months of the accident. These requirements do not mean you cannot bring a late claim.

The law also requires the insurer pay your medical expenses as they arise and compensate you immediately in the event the accident prevents you from working and you have no or little means to pay ongoing bills and expenses.

The insurer is also required to pay part of your legal expenses.
